== The short, recent history of Kaiden ==

(from Collision to present)

The official date from the pre collision era was Jan 25th, 2020. In a flash, the world was forever changed. Entire masses of land were distorted, twisted and molded, transported and exchanged with other masses. Not only did this change the mortal world, but the Dreaming (the realm of imagination, dreams, myths and legends) collided with the mortal world as well: colliding realities.

When this happened, the world stopped and stood still, neither the Dreaming nor mortals wanted to make a wrong step. It took months for things to start happening. People were learning how to live with the situation, cities were trying to get back to normal, governments both local and international were deadlocked on what to do. War broke out in many countries. There were some limited, nuclear exchanges. Mortals battled each other and their own fears and dreams made flesh, fighting out of fear or profit, and the infighting for both grew as well. On the West Coast of the United States, the Time of Troubles saw plenty of conflict, but it was on a much smaller scale…partly because of the efforts of the Orochi group’s ability to organize resources and technology, and also because the leaders of many West Coast cities saw the benefits of negotiation rather than outright war.

Five years later, and we barely know more than we did that fateful day. The new calendar is close to reaching 5 AC, and things are very uncertain.

We now look at Kaiden and how it has affected the people there. Kaiden is located where Eureka used to be, in Northern California. Parts of the original town remain, but they’re blended with neighborhoods and fragments (and people) from Tokyo, Tai Pei, Hong Kong and Novgorod. For 5 years, it has worked hard as a community to make things work going forward. Mostly out of reach of the conflicts in the US and on other continents. Kaiden is still a city in California, under the governance of the state and federal government, but several Powers also strongly influence the workings in the city and surrounding countryside, specifically Wyld, Shahrewar, and Allure. Kadian has several major players and shakers, with their own ideas on how the city should work. Many of those (Orochi Group, Inagawa-Kai, Federal authorities) have influence beyond the city’s borders.

Kaiden is a mix of both worlds, both beings and land. Novgorod, RUS in the mortals tongue, or Blessed Eska as the dreaming Fae call it, is part of the dreaming that ended up adjacent to the mortal side from the collision.

Will Kaiden be a haven for the peaceful, be a police state controlled by mega-corporations, or be devolve into factional warfare?
